Arangetram

Arangetram is a compound Tamil word that means ascending (etram) the stage (arangam). It is the first time a dancer is presented to an audience in a traditional solo performance of a select repertoire called margam. It showcases higher level of competence in multiple skill areas, including expression and complex choreography. Bharatam dancers who have pursued arangetram regard it as a transformative experience of growth and self-discovery of the joy of internalized art. Achieving this milestone is a testimony to the years of collective effort and dedication.

Arangetram is a celebration of shared joy of this ancient art, Bharatanatyam. Many Bharatam dancers have been presented at their Arangetram. We add our creative energy, like drops of water that contribute to the river of continuing traditions.
